I have a MI front buis mounted on a stag carbine picatinny gas block. The gas block, of course, is not on the same plane as the upper receiver and the MI BUIS is a little bit taller than the typical front sight.
My question is: can I mount that same front sight if I upgrade to a mid-length railed forearm that extends past an installed hidden gas block; or do I need a shorter front sight? Or will I always be shooting low with the taller sight from the lack of adjustment? Thanks |

Sell the gas block height one in the EE and get normal one. You didn't tell him that he would also have to sell the front sight (as it would be rendered worthless without a low profile gas block). I think the thing that opens up the most options and prevents you from painting yourself in a corner is to purchase a quality front folding sight in the standard M4 height. Next, remove the low profile railed gas block and install a low profile version. By doing this, we derive three benefits: 1. You are forced to use a free float hand guard (better accuracy) 2. You are no longer restricted to a certain length of hand guard (try a 7 inch and if you find yourself wishing you had a little more stretch room out front, sell it on EE and pick up a 9-11" version. 3. By running a standard height folding front sight, you now are in the LCD (lowest common denominator) group of front sight owners. Keep this theme when buying new/used equipment, parts and rifles (it ends up saving you a lot in the long run). |

When I said "sell the gas block height one", I was talking about the front sight he currently has mounted on the railed gas block. Quoted:
