| I was at work today and got into a discussion about ff rails and mentioned the MI ff rail and the guy tried telling me its not truely a ff rail. Is he a complete moron or what? I watched a video last night on installing one and it looks very easy and I'm thinking about getting this when I get my ar. Any truth to what my coworker was saying? |
| A lot of companies these days are making rails that look like free float but are not. Even MI makes one that is not actually a free float although at first glance it looks to be, but they do make pure float rails also. Your friend is confused thinking that MI only makes one type of rail. The rail he is thinking of is not a free float (link), the one you are thinking of more than likely is. The confusing part is they look almost identical so don't be too hard on your friend. Now is your time to shine and educate him. |

This is what I looked at and told him this and he said "if its two piece it's not a ff rail." http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=422 |

It is definitely a free floated hand guard. The hand guard only makes contact with the factory barrel nut it attaches to. It makes zero contact with the barrel or gas block. Tell your coworker he is wrong! |

Tell your coworker he is wrong! Thanks and he came in today saying he was wrong. Lol. Do these rails work just as well as a normal ff rail? |

The two piece rails just allow you to install them behind a FSB without removing it first. It's just easier to install. That's the only major difference between a 2 piece vs a 1 piece FF rail. |
