thanks. how do you think a 15" rail would look on a 20" barrel? i like the look of only a little barrel showing and the gas block to be hidden. thoughts?

I've had good results with M.I. rails. The most recent was the T-Series.
15" would look great on a 20" barrel.

I have two sets, the freefloat and the non-freefloat.

Both are good quality and had no imperfections. From what I've heard they are heavier than say a DD or LT but when you compare prices its forgivable.

Truly dig mine.  I think a low profile, long free float, with the ability to add only the rails you need, is the way to go.  And My MI ones are not appreciably heavier than the original style, went on easily and are very stable.

Thanks, it's a 16" mid-length, but that is the rifle length hand guard.

currahee,
the website said it needs minor gunsmithing to put it on. what do they mean by that?

Here is a pic of mine. Its a 16 inch barrel/carbine gas and the 12 inch MI quadrail. I installed mine myself. MI provides you with their own barrel nut that will replace the one on your current rifle. You will need an upper receiver block, bench vise, barrel nut wrench, punch pins, hammer, front site block, 3/4 inch wrench (for taking off the flash hider), and I prefer to use a torque wrench when installing a barrel nut. You will also need a low profile gas block. All in all it took about 45 minutes to put my rail on. Just make sure you have all the required tools before you start and take your time. I watched youtube video's 3 or 4 times before attempting mine. It was rather easy. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself then have a competent gunsmith do it. Good luck.

I have one set of their carbine rails, non free floated. As stated above, can't beat them for the price.

I've had mine for about 5 years now. Only issue I've had is a screw habitually coming lose, but I gorilla-glued it (all i had at the time) and the rail has been perfect since.

I have the 10" FF

As far as AFG concerns, I just hammered my AFG (version 1) on. Sure the inside of the "wings" got scraped, but who cares. If anything its a more secure fit.

I'll also vouch for MI rails.  I installed the T12 a few thousand rounds ago and it's held up great, nothing has loosened up at all.  The fit and finish is excellent.  Like other have said though, it is a little heavier than DD although not so much that it would keep my from buying one.  Installation is easy as long as you have the proper tools (see above).

I've had four sets of MI rails & two of them were out of spec. I contacted MI & they made it right each time by sending me new rails...no questions asked. MI is known to produce out of spec rails from time to time but they always make it right.

Indeed there was a rash of out of spec rails for a while there.  I don't understand how you can miss that quality check if your MAKING RAILS.

I have one MI rail.  They're a little too fat.. so I have to use ladder rail covers which I don't prefer.  Mine has been OK for hanging lights.  But I wouldn't buy another MI rail just for the size issue and the risk of getting an out of spec unit.

Trying to install a T12 right now....

I think the hole in the handguard for the lock screw is supposed to be threaded...

Mine is not...

MI is taking care of my issue, and responded quickly, still been almost a week..

After I got the It's shipping out today message, I have not gotten a response about my request for a tracking number.

Last few times I have dealt with the manf with an issue they sent the items next day air, oh well, hopefully monday...

And it's a really nice looking rail, good machining and very light.
