While I respect that you're trying to use a Colt A2 for the start of your build, the MK 12 MOD 0 is not a modification of the M16A2 in any direct way, and would be closer to an M16A4, though historically, it was developed as an accessory receiver to the SOF M4A1.

There is a lengthy thread in the AR Discussions forum that you can post about with much more interest on your MK 12 MOD 0 build.

Burn the witch ... all we have around here are A2's with the integral carry handle

Don't correct uppers have M4 ramps? IIRC they were Armalite receivers.

And they got M16A1 lowers when they had function issues on M4A1 lowers and needed rifle stocks.

The correct uppers have m4 feedramps.  Some are pictured with Armalite uppers, with many of the Colt variety.  Initially the upper was fielded as a seperate add on to the m4a1 sopmod carbine...but due to bolt bounce with CARBINE BUFFER SETUP, it was easier for CRANE to just use lowers from NOS M16A1s they saved from destruction,  plus it was cheaper than buying new modern lowers.

I don't get it.  Why didn't they just swap buttstocks?  Why would they need a whole new or different lower?

Originally the CQB and SP receivers were parallel developments for specialized upper receivers for the M4A1 Carbine that had recently come into service with SOCOM units, and was being used with the SOPMOD kit.

Once they started swapping out the buttstocks and fire control groups, it was decided that the SPR was becoming different enough to become it's own weapon system, rather than simply being an additional upper receiver unit for the M4A1.

The M16A1 lowers were already available at essentially no cost, so it made sense to re-use them for both the MK 12 and MK 18 "spin-off" weapon systems.

If you swap an M16A1 stock onto your M4A1 lower you've lost something.

What?  Aren't they both FA?  If that's what you're referring to. But you lost me as to what you would lose.  hehehehe  The problem was bolt bounce.  The solution is a different buffer.  Correct?  Not half a rifle. I must be dense because I don't get it.  Wait. do you mean you lost some adjustability?  Well sure, but if they replaced them with M16A1 lowers with a1 fixed stocks, then you still have the same solution, but now you have extra M4A1 lowers.  Which I'm sure is fine.  But I still don't see why not just steal buttstocks instead of buttstocks AND receivers.

What you say makes sense Augee.  In other words they had extra M16A1's around that they could steal lowers from, or maybe even just lowers themselves, but not necessarily any M4A1 extra lowers.  Does that sound about right?

They found that the SPR needed a rifle lower. Why deadline M4s to get that instead of having two rifles?

The marines and maybe Army wanted Adj stocks on the A2's due being to long with Vest on

So the Candians were the first to covert their A2 to adj stocks........with a H2 buffer.

We  and several years later decided to contract  the buffer to Damaged Ind for the SOPMOD kit using the H6 buffer in the adj stock for A2.

Good luck with your Mk12 Mod 0 build. I did mine a few years ago. I originally had an A2 buttstock on it, but changed it out with a LMT SOPMOD. It also has a standard H buffer, but I am running a FA BCG and a LMT two-stage trigger. I really like it. I just had mine at the range a few days ago along with my Mk11 Mod 0.

Very nice build, parts are very expensive, I get a new part very month. The Canadians went with the HH buffer very much like our H3 or H2 buffer.

Very nice MK 12

I just ordered my PRI forearms and front sight along with the Ops Inc. muzzle brake and Collar from PRI.

I have already switched the A2 stock for the B5 stock and H6 Buffer and Enhaced Spring

And replaced the grip with the Sierra SPR grip.

Next is my ARMS rear sight and the full SPR rail.

What rail did you go with?
