| Looking for input on MPro 7. Wondering if it just removes carbon or does it remove some copper as well. Just looking for something that removes carbon. Thanks in advance! |
|
The regular MPro-7 is a great carbon remover, but does nothing for copper.
Their copper solvent I've read is pretty good. But since you just want to remove carbon, the regular MPro-7 is fantastic. It's all I use anymore. No stink so the wife is happy, and it works well so I'm happy. |

You might be interested in reviewing Fr. Frog's detailed testing of various guncleaners (link). He concluded that standard MPRO-7 had a "slight" effect on copper fouling compared to Breakfree CLP which had "none." MPRO-7 copper remover was determined to have a "high" effect.
A common misconception is that MPRO-7 is water based. MPRO-7 is not water based but it is an excellent cleaner, so good that cleaned parts can be prone to rusting if not oiled or greased. I've found that spraying cleaned parts with WD-40 is cheap and effective. MPRO-7 FAQ According to their website, MPRO-7 might not directly attack copper fouling but it will still remove copper fouling by removing the carbon around and below the copper fouling. |
| Mpro-7 and Hoppes Elite are nearly identical. Both are actually produced by Pantheon. I too have heard that Hoppes owns Mpro-7, but that was years ago. Could be another one of those things where a half dozen (or more) companies are all owned by another larger one. |

Found this response on another website link
"Although Hoppe's Elite and M-Pro 7 are both manufactured by Pantheon Chemical, they are different products. The M-Pro 7 line is geared towards military and LE style shooters who require additional lubricating and corrosion protection properties to maintain their weapons. Typically, they clean their weapons less often and their weapons are usually exposed to more dirt, dust, etc. The products are both non-toxic and non-hazardous but are formulated differently. Both are great products and you won't be disappointed with either one. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you! I would like to try some MPro, but I haven't found a local source yet. Maybe its different formulation would be better at removing carbon since
it's formulated more for Police and military uses, at least according to the statement quoted above. The Hoppe's is inexpensive, but it does seem to take a long time to work on carbon deposits from 22LR. |
| Basically....every time you remove the copper your POI will change because you have change the internal dimentions of your barell. There is no need to be constantly removeing copper. You should only do it when accuracy changes. Just remove the carbon and leave the copper. Carbon is the issue not copper! Just my two cents! |

Brownell's has the entire M-pro line available on their site. I realy llike it and I'm one of those dyed in the wool...afraid to change...Old Guys.
And any of you who are LE or Military, hey give a discount. Amounts to a nice chunk of money on certain items. Mr. Want to leave the Copper IN.....Your 180 degrees OUT from Target and Benchrest shooters. You may simply have a barrel that you think shoots fine copper fouled, when in reality it's probably a smooth tube that doesn't foul. Copper fouling is seldom related to accuracy. Same as You...MY two cents. FN in MT |

To each there own, I guess. I just dont see the need to remove the copper each and eveytime. But again thats just my two cents. I prefer to shoot and spend my time increasing my skills not sitting there and cleaning it each and everytime. My questions have been answered!

So many are recommending Super Quick Clean Gun to me over M-Pro7 Gun Cleaner:
http://www.superquickcleanguns.com/html/productinfo.html I like M-Pro 7 a lot but my buddies who have used both absolutely love the Super Quick better. I am currently using Slip 2000 725 and it does work well...reminds me of the smell of windex. Non-toxic like the others, not hazardous to handle and bio-d. It does a very good job and is cheap for 16 oz! Its a buck an ounce whereas M-Pro7 is 2 bucks an ounce! SQCG is even more!! I use a lot of the 725 gun cleaner...more than the lube or the foaming bore cleaner. It isnt the toughest cleaner but certain does a great job beyond what I have used in the past...Hoppes #9...which leaves certain parts of the gun with a dirty film. I do like #9 but I am moving away from hazardous as well as oily products that still seem to leave a film or coating on the gun. Hoppes is better in other area. For general cleaning, slide, mag well, chamber, outside of the barrel, and the sight 725, M-Pro7, and SQCG work better. Just remember to lube what areas need it for those products degrease! |
| I got a great deal on 32 oz of MPro and I can tell you I am happy. Removed the carbon with no issue and as far as I can see worked great! Three wet patches and a nylon brush and 15 minutes and it was done. I like others am trying to move away from the petrol based stuff and get to something a little less harsh. So far so good. |
| I tried it the other day and it worked great. Did a great job at removing the carbon off the barrel and the BCG. Worked fast and did a great job. Took just three wet patched and a few passed with a nylon brush and it came out just as expected. Took an whole 20 minutes and that was with waiting 5 minutes between wet patches. |
