Very nice! I just completed my first build also, It is now 100% complete with optics, I am looking forward to a test run, But damn fine job on that AR

Looks a bit heavy, long, and slow for 3 gun shooting.  Must be way different 3 gun matches where you shoot.

You know what they say - If you can't say anything nice then don't friggin post. This is a 16" Barrel. A lot of 3 gunners use 20". The last comp I was in had targets out to 300 yards. I seriously doubt you can tell how fast a gun is by looking at it.

What gas system are you running?  A midlength?  You have a realy nice set up.  It would go over well at our 3 gun shoots.

He might be talking about the choice of optic....

ETA:  JP15 is a fine one.

I am using a carbine length gas system. I am going to use a midlength on my next build. This one is setup perfect though and with the JP operating system, compensator and H buffer is right on.

Thanks for the compliments!

Where in NC do you shoot?  Nice setup btw.

About the optics: I picked the IOR because it works out better for me. I have the benefit of being the web designer for a local gunshop so they let me try out items from the store. I didnt like the eotech and the Leupold CQ/T wasnt better enough to warrant the price difference. When I bought the IOR from the equipment exchange here i just loved the eyecup because I personally can sight quicker with it. This works for me and as we all know everyone is different. I would really like to try a Meopta Meostar though.

I bought the JP Short range tactical after shooting a stage from the 2nd floor of a tower that had steel targets at the base of the tower to 100yds out. all the shooters were struggling with various setups. They were either good on the short ones and bad on the farther or vice-versa depending on their setup. This is good on both

I was shooting out of Fayetteville but have recently moved to Durham and am going to join the Durham gun club. I will prolly venture back to Fayetteville though as they have a new 3 gun at cross creek range. Where are you in NC?

I'm in Tabor City.  It's down here near the coast.  I've shot at the  Fayetteville P.S.A. monthy match several time when I first get involved with the USPSA, altho I haven't shot in any matches for over a year.  The only 3 gun matches I've shot were at the Ant Hill Shooting Club down here in Brunswick County.

I have friends that go to the shoots at Ant Hill. They just started the matches at cross creek range in Fayetteville.

The H buffer is counter-productive to the JP operating system.
Lose it for a regular carbine buffer and de-tune the gas system via the JP gas block.
That will reduce the recoil impulse even more.

Here's my 3 gun rifle:

Nice rig!
The H Buffer is not good for the JP Tactical operating system? I dont have the lightweight Carrier.

I think the point is that the JP carrier is designed to reduce felt recoil by reducing the reciprocating mass... if you then add a heavier H-buffer, you are defeating the objecto of the lighter carrier - might as well save a bunch of $$$ and just buy a plain vanilla carrier. You might want to try the gun with a standard CAR buffer, and throttle down the gas flow to keep bolt velocity under control.

Correct.
Just like he said it.

416 Stainless tactical duty carrier  (ETA JPBC-2 full mass stainless tactical carrier.) sure looks to be the same size as a std carrier. Only mass he will save is to run a std carbine buffer.

How you guys like the JP Low mass? The two people I know that have the, loved/hatted them.

Like the reduce recoil, hatted the operational window.

The point I was trying to make is that I am running the Tactical Carrier, not the Low Mass carrier. This is not a lightweight carrier, no weight savings, The advantage of the Stainless Steel tactical carrier is less surface friction as the bearing surfaces are polished.

To quote jp's website:

"For police tactical duty or any application where absolute reliability is the main criteria, we have our new TOS™ or Tactical Operating System with 416 stainless steel special design carrier that includes forward assist serrations and a dust cover notch. The bore of the JP stainless carriers has a roller burnished finish for frictionless operation with no chance of peeling chrome as in standard mil-spec carriers. The exterior bearing surfaces are hand polished. When properly lubricated, both systems make your rifle feel like it was cycling on ball bearings. Both carriers feature a 100% increase in bearing surface for smoother operation and improved alignment and lower wear in the upper receiver. Both are M15 semi auto configuration in the rear with the mil-spec longer cocking pad in the front for best reliability."

I initially had a carbine buffer and did not like the "buffer sproing" I got from it. When I replaced it with the H buffer the "sproing" went away as well as some of the recoil. Due to the fact that this carrier has less friction it creates more inertia. The H buffer counteracts this perfectly for my shooting.

I hope you plan to check out Oxford and Wilkesboro for future 3 gun matches as well.  Gun looks great.

D'oh, that is just what I had in mind for my 3 gun, except I have the super M2 (6x) Dragonov (sp) reticle and was thinking of mounting an HK style sight 45 degrees off of the receiver and front sight at 45 too.

But I was wondering how the iron sights, or side sights work with the short eye relief of the IOR?  Is it in the way of your forehead?  Are the side sights too low, how is the cheek weld at 45?  Side sight is accurate to how far?  Thanks for any input.
