Looking at a couple older M-16 hammers.  It's not for a burst vintage rifle so I'm wondering why the hammer on the left in the attached photo has that extra "dog", "pall", "boss" in the area where the disconnector meets the hammer.http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/ae265/dangerprop/HammerSpur_zpsbdefe0f4.jpg

Hammer on the left is a burst specific hammer, no question. The extra material (width) is there to accommodate the two disconnectors used in the burst feature.
