My next buy will be a bare bones factory M-4 styled rifle. I'd really prefer the 14.5" barrel with a pinned FH. I was really hoping that spikes made one but after looking at their sight I couldn't find one. I plan on upgrading the gun with a surefire rail, an Aimpoint(haven't decided which one), and good light, and a troy buis, I just need the base rifle to start with. What do you all reccomend?

I'll recommend a Colt, BCM or LMT 14.5 upper on the lower of your choice. You can also get a top quality barrel in the DD if you want to build your own. Are you going for the mil M4 clone look or are you just wanting a 14.5 to personalize?

I am happy with the 14.5" carbines I own but if I had to do it over again it would be with 16" barrels for muzzle device versatility. I had no prior experience with the pinned FH (which is a Vortex in this case) but lucked out in that I liked it's performance.

If you're set on a 14.5" though and don't care about the M-4 barrel contour (ETA: the lack of an M203 notch) I recommend Noveske.

Well, I'm basing it off of the M-4 Clone look. But it will not be the exact rail/sight/FH. This gun, above the rest of mine, will be my go to rifle. Quality is going to be a big deciding factor, but with that being said I'd also like to keep the cost down where possible.

Awesome! I've been looking at the details on it all day. I think I'm going to get the BCM base14.5" Upper. What BCG should I look into that is G2G? Any reviews on the BCM gunfighter charging handle?

Most everyone here that has or has tried a Gunfighter raves about it.  You can probably find at least one thread with a search.  Mod 4 seems the most popular.  I know I will be putting one on my next build, and maybe my current one.

14.5" barrels can shoot with the proper optics...I think it was a couple American Riflemans ago but the Colt 14.5 they tested with like 16x optics grouped just over .5in at 100yds with match ammo

Sabre Defence makes a factory 14.5" M-4 style carbine (model #90243).

Buds has them for just under $1K.

I would personally get a Colt 6920.

That is more out of personal experience and brand loyalty than anything else.

A Colt 6921 would come with a 14.5" barrel.

Unless you're going to be driving tacks with it, just pick one.  I just built one using a Bushmaster 14.5" barrel and pinned a Levang compensator to it.  I like it a lot.  I runs like a champ and is a lot of fun to shoot.

That having been said, I'm partial to BCM stuff, although I'd feel compelled to check out the Daniel Defense offering.

I own 2 LMT 14.5 for over 5 years now

I also HATE the 203 cut out period!

I couldnt find a good 14.5 LW  1/7 at the time. Noveske didnt make a N4 or I would of Bought it.

I also HATE Vortex type FH  but that because Ive had Brush stuck on the end.
But still would take a N4

I too would choose the Colt 6920 and work with it, if you really need to use a 1.5" send it to Adco. But I really doubt you are going to want or need to loose a 1.5" unless you are into the look over function.
