I'm thinking of making my own gas block as they seem to be fairly simple devices. Something like the YHM low profile model.

I don't know what the internals look like though. How do you affix it to the barrel? How do you ensure a good seal on the barrel? Do you just come at it from below to drill the gas port, and then use the hole on the bottom as a pilot for a threaded hole for a set screw?

Anyone have any dimensioned drawings of an AR-15 gas block?

Not much to a gas block. Just use the standard front sight / gas block for dimensions. And AFAIK, the only seal is a close fit to the barrel, I've never seen any kind of a seal on any gas block I've either installed or removed before. The set screws provide enough prerssure to seal any gasses...

Have fun! This is a good project.
