I was cleaning the guns today and I guess the Hoppes was getting to me. I accidentally put the 9mm brush down the barrel of my AR. I did it a couple times before I realized the mistake. Did I damage the AR barrel?

are you serious?

Probably not. I'm guessing it was a somewhat used brush? It must've felt a wee bit resistant.

It was an older brush. It was a bit tight but didnt cross my mind at the time

The steel (and chrome?) is way harder than the brass in the brush... on purpose... just for that reason.  You should be fine.

i am surprised you even got that thing in there.  your barrel should be fine, nonetheless.

This, 9mm is a really tight fit in a 5.56.

It would have to be real worn..9mm is what 38 caliber maybe a bit smaller?

If the Hoppe's fumes get to you, don't try Butch's or Montana Extreme.

I am assuming your barrel is chrome lined, in which case it would be fine.  Most of the cleaning tools (brass jags) are a softer metal than the chrome lining in your barrel.  Your brass cleaning tools will scratch before the barrel will.

Get some Slip 2000 EWL. It's non-toxic and works as well, if not better, than anything I've ever used.

+1 Butch's will have you trying to crawl into the chamber for a closer look.

Actually by putting a 9mm brush in a 5.56, you now officially re-chambered the barrel into a 6.8spc.

If I wanted to convert one of my 5.56 uppers to 6.5 Grendel, which bore cleaning brush should I use to do the conversion? A .32 maybe?

That's one shiny ass bore you got there ..

I recycle used bore brushes down to smaller calibers all the time.

My 8mm caliber brushes become .30 caliber, .30's become 6.5 mm, 6.5mm become .243, etc. The same for the pistol bore brushes up to a point.

I can't say that I've managed to wear any down to .223/.224 though.

Thank goodness you didn't accidently shoot 9mm rounds through a 5.56 barrel.  Now THAT would cause some damage.
