Hi,
Just picked up an LWRC M6A2 that came equipped with a MagPul CTR stock.  I like it but have a UBR kicking around I'd like to install.  That nut holding the stock tubes on looks like it requires a special tool.  See a "CAR wrench" on Brownell's site that has a set of 4 teeth to fit into the nut's grooves.  Happy to buy it and do the job right, but just wondered if there are other methods to remove it.  I'll probably use it once or twice and don't wish to pay $80 if there's another method that's just as safe on the parts, even if a bit more time consuming.

Thanks,
Matt

Find yourself a cheaper stock wrench

GO HERE

eta: 5th item on that page

RRA Castle Nut Stock Wrench $7.00

Without seeing whatever you are looking at on Brownells website - I bet you are looking at an Armorers Wrench for that price...

That link takes you to page 2 of 3... go to page 1 if you think you'll need the Armorers Wrench, $34.00

Thanks for the note:

This is what I was looking at:  http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=27454/Product/CAR_15_M4_BUTTSTOCK_WRENCH

Overkill I guess, unless that's useful for other reasons.

The wrench from Brownells looks good, but I went for one of the Spikes Tactical wrenches.  It runs $20 compared to $80

Here is a link to the Spikes wrench  Spikes Tactical HD M4 Stock Wrench

I used in on my RRA lower to put on a new back plate, and it worked great.  Looks good too with the paracord wrap on the handle.

Its nice to have a bit longer handle than the standard…

Brownell's overcharges for almost everything. One reason a lot of stuff is in stock there when other vendors are sold out.
