What is the best brand of mag coupler to buy as far as sturdiness of the coupler, the ability to hold either 20 or 30 round mags, and the best type of coupler to not deform the mags themselves?

the best i have triede are the ones by MagCinch; second: First Samco

h/w, that said, i dont really like the dual mags as it adds on the extra weight and sometimes the mag in use's top rnd pops upward during the AR's use

That is something to think about; I'd rather have reliability than extra ammo! Might just go for a buttstock mag pouch. Thanks for the info.

I had the Fobus one. I tried it a couple times and ended up throwing it in the trash.

I like the Israeli version.  I'm going to have to start running it more during practice to find out if this rumor about the ammo shifting in the second mag is real.

Arredondo is used most in the 3 Gun circles.  I like mine (have 3).  You have to keep the second mag fully loaded or you can get some moment of the top round in the second mag.

Fobus is not bad either, just not as sturdy.

The Arredondo are best by a mile.  The two main reasons, other than the fact that they hold the mags securely are:

1)   The mags are far enough apart that you don't smash the edges into your trigger finger when you change to the left one.

2)   Because of the spread, you can put both mags at the same height and the resultant combination, especially with Arredondo mag bases, is a great monopod platform (two mags, instead of one), for precision shots.

Besides, Ralph is such a great guy! ha ha ha... Seriously, I liked his stuff so much that Wes and I started carrying Arredondo accessories ourselves.  Even his expanded magwell, which does look a little over the top, until you try one.

Perhaps, Cleatus.

But the one thing I don't like about coupling mags is the bulk.  I can't imagine spreading the mags even further appart.

My question is - who really uses their mag coupler? I bought a BlackHawk one a little while ago which eliminates the problem with the second mag top round shifting out, it has a little plastic cap that clips over the top, is easy to flip off for a fast mag change, and doesn't require downloading one round. That being said, I have not really used it outside of regular range shooting. Anyone use theirs for 3 gun or anything else that really utilizes it?

I will have to second this suggestion.

It it by far the best option.

Not the Mag grip, or the Israeli coupler.  I've heard too many complaints about the Mag cinch coming loose just sitting in the safe to use that thing.

+1 on the fobus mag coupler. I have used one for Practical rifle matches and haven't had the second mag/round problem that has been mentioned. I have a cop freind that uses one and he loves it as well.
