I was talking with a guy the other day and he was telling me about a new magazine spring that is being made out of some special material used by NASA or somebody but I forgot what the website he said it was at.  Anybody know what I'm talking about?

I have some GI mags with 35 year old springs in them.  They work just fine.  What could be better than this style spring?

My belief: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Gov't belief:  If it ain't broke, fix it till it is broke.

I am about to replace my mag springs for some USGI 30 rdrs. I already replaced the followers, but does anyone have an opinion on whether I should get a replacement from Wolff or if I should get the chrome silicone springs, such as these:

While the C-S springs are probably the best possible springs available, I'm really not convinced they are necessary.  The Wolfe springs are great, and much less expensive.  I guess you'll have to decide if that extra "insurance" is worth the money.  It just wasn't for me, and I'm pretty demanding when it comes to my guns' reliablity.

Troy, as for prices, my browse through the EE indicates the C-S springs to be cheaper by at least 1/2. Something I'm overlooking maybe?

I don't know if he was talking about C-S or not.  I believe he said it was a guy out of Arizona and the material is never supposed to set or need replacing and was developed by NASA for use on satelites and this guy started using it for magazines.

You're right; I was thinking about the "titanium" mags that Oly was selling.

You heard correctly, there are such springs. They are of a "secret patented material" supposedly has "memory". Can't be stretched or deformed out of proper form. Dunno know the cost of these wondersprings, but I bet she's a doosy ($$$$$).

I agreee with the choir. The existing spring is pretty "darn" good. Why try to improve on it.

Side note: Chrome Silicon springs for use in ARs is a bunch of hype to try to sell "improved" products that generally can't perform as well as the ones they are replacing. Just my .02. Cheers.

Do you know where to find them though?  I am not trying to "fix something that isn't broke"  I just thought they sounded cool.
