Can someone explain to me the difference between a many circles mag button and the one after that. From what I have seen they started with the horizontal line mag button then went to the many circles button on the 602. I see them around for $90. It looks like they then switched to the "current design" button. I don't see the difference between a many circles and the design after that. Anyone? Thanks

If you look carefully at a "many circles" button it has FIVE "rings", and a later button only has FOUR "rings".  Most  601 rifles also had the many circles buttons too.

Thanks guys! Do you about how many 601's had horizontal mag buttons? Why did they change?

Not sure of an exact date for the change, but a member here has a 3 digit (7xx)  real 601 that has the horizontal lined button, and there was another real 601 for sale that had a 1,1xx serial number that had the many circle button.
There are also 2 variations of the many circle. As mentioned above, 5 rings. When you look straight down at the button, one version the ribs go straight down into the button, the other version, the ribs have a slight taper as it goes down into the button.
Obviously there is no way to know if either of those rifle are 110% un-molested, so take the info with a grain of salt.

I had heard that only about the first 1,000 of the 601's had horizontal lines, and the real examples above would support this.  I would LOVE to find a REAL horizontal line mag catch, however the repros are so good that I probably wouldn't know a real one if I saw it.
