I have never used a mag coupler before. I prefer carrying mags in pouches. However I was thinking of trying a few.  Are they a PITA or do the really serve a useful purpose besides adding weight.

I use one on my HD gun..as in the one physically in the gun.  It keeps the second mag right with the rifle so you only have to grab one thing.

But I only have the one and have no desire for any additional.

I used to use one for the simple ability to grab and go with 60 rounds. In those days there was many times I didn't have the chance to gear up with raid vests and strap on extra mags. It was strictly grab what you can carry and head out the door, so the 60 rounds was a good option. These days I am in a different response scenario, so if an M4 leaves the office, I already have on the raid vest with multiple mags.

60 rounds hanging off the gun makes it a little heavy and awkward. I have never tried one of the 100 round mags, but I think it would be much the same problem. Too much weight throwing off the balance and quick handling feel of a short AR platform.

Yeah I have a 100rd surefire. 2 actually. They function well. Crazy heavy!  I have a vest ready to go loaded so I can grab it easy.  I picked  up a pmag coupler from midway since I had a backorder to fill they were sending. I'll see what it's like.
