Hey, just got my new PWS MK1. The mag release is rather "gritty" and sometimes gets almost stuck. It can be very hard to release a mag with my index finger. It's strange because sometimes it is fine and smooth and not a problem... It does this without a mag so it isn't a mag prob. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling but still no luck. Not too sure whats going on. Any help?

Cheers

It's a simple device.
I'd take it apart again and look it over.
Might try it without the spring to see how it fits in general without the spring load.

Make sure the button isn't to tight of a fit and also check the spring to make sure it doesn't have any burrs or sharp edges.

Thanks guys. I just tried it without the spring. It seems to fit fine. Spring seems to be fine; no edges, etc. Not sure wutsup..
Edit: also I don't think the button is too tight. The screw is flush.

So it seems to occur when my index finger presses it a bit low; like when it's not centered on the button.

Have you tried oiling it?

Make sure the spring isn't binding in the lower or on the mag catch.

I've oiled it and the spring isn't binding up. Maybe it's something that will wear in over time?

I don't think it's the spring. Really, I dunno wtf is wrong. I thought maybe it was getting a bit better but I just picked the rifle up again and gave it a try and I wasn't even able to budge it. It literally felt stuck. Tried it with my thumb (so at somewhat of a different angle) and it went in no problem.

I don't have another AR to test this... How tight of a fit should the mag release button be when inserted? Is it normal for it to be wiggling around?

Militec-1 grease. Pack it!

I'm not clear on the question so I'll answer all possibilities.

The button on mine fits nicely in the receiver with very little "wobble" with no mag installed.
It's probably a little firmer with a mag installed. Not much difference though.
The mag has a little "wobble" when installed.
The mag "catch tab" lies perfectly flush with the left side of the receiver.
Mags drop free.

I would call all of the above very normal.

The threaded post is flush with the top of the button as per spec.

It has to be the receiver or one of the parts.
Try a different catch, button, and spring.

So the spring sits in the hole just fine, and the catch goes back and forth without the spring just fine?

But when correctly installed it feels gritty?

Is the spring bent or too long causing it to bunch up and rub on the lower?

It seems as though the button may be a little bit too small... there is a little bit of play when there is no mag. I can also turn it left/right, just a little bit. It's kind of tough to explain... The problem seems to happen when my finger isn't centered on the bottom. It happens when I put force on the lower part of the button. I think the button is grinding against the lower. I put a ton of grease in there but it doesn't help. Aaargh!!
