Hi I'm thinking of ordering some Pmags with windows; for those of you who have experience with these, are the windows worth the extra cost? What I really mean to ask is, is the window practical so that you actually tell how many rounds are remaining through the window, or is the window more of a gimmick? Also does the window affect reliability/function?
Thanks, Jimmy |

You don't see any rounds in the window until you have about 21 rounds inserted in the magazine. So, the window shows you if you have more than 20 rounds left. You can mark the window to show how many between 21-30.
Kinda neat..not a necessity, but can be useful. |

The window does not in any way affect function. I have more windowed then non-windowed Pmags only because they seem to come up for sale more. I don't use the window to view my rounds. Maybe if I was in combat or a shoot out it may be useful. After a certin point you can't see the rounds any way. So its really up to you on which ones you get. I didn't want to wait for all non-windows to come up for sale to get my stash. |

When less than 20 rounds, you can look at the painted part of the spring to get a round estimate:
From Magpul: "The MagLevelâ„¢ PMAGâ„¢ features transparent windows and a painted spring for quick determination of approximate round count" Here's the pic of the spring: http://www.magpul.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=80_120&products_id=267 |

Most of my PMAGs have windows, I only have a few without windows because I'm just curious how they compare with the windowed mags, plus I also have several Lancer L5 translucent mags.
I prefer the windowed PMAG because the colored spring round indicator gives the approximate rounds left. With the Lancer mag's, if there are less than 20 rounds, it can't be seen anymore but it's fine because I'm just using it for target practice, so I just quickly remove it and look how many I've got left and reinsert it. I need a bunch more of both types of mags, but since they're hard to find now I'll just take whatever I could get. |
| I have both but unless they put 30rnd and 20rnd indicators like the lancer mags whats the point I see the orange spring yee haw! It really doesnt give the actual round count so I started to buy windowless p-mags more bang for the buck thats how I see it just keep mindful on your ammo count forget the window. |

Truthfully, I don't get it.
I had all non windowed, and had the chance to buy some windowed, so, I did. Kind of nifty, but not $4 per nifty. Maybe if you were not that familure with AR mags, it might be a good thing, but for those of us who have slapped many a mag, you know if your mag is full or empty. If it showed all 30 rounds, OK, that might be good if you were reloading when you CAN not when you HAVE TO (thank you Clint Smith) and retained your partially empty mags. If there was a break in the action you could figure out which mags to go to out of the dump bag (which for me has always been down the shirt) as you could tell which had 2 rounds and which had 3 (an example of course). SO what I am using my 25 windowed Pmags for is placing them in my girlfriend's mag carrier. Perhaps they will help her tell how many rounds she has. Maybe not. LDW |
| I wanted to try some Pmags, so I requested the email notification from MidwayUSA had them in stock for regular price as I refuse to pay double because they are "neat". The windowed ones came into stock first so I got those. If the non-windowed one came in first, I would have gotten those instead. |

The opinion of a fat assed, never been there, never done that couch commando is if you're in a gunfight and not sure how much ammo you have left in the gun, and there's enough light, and feel you have time to take your eyes off the enemy long enough to look you might as well replace with a full mag instead. That said, I have a dozen or so windowed pmags and do think they are cool. |

I'd better move quick or with my luck by the time I order it they would be out of stock again.
