My friend built a lower and I had to fit the magazine catch to the lower. Before that the magazines wouldn't seat and now some magazines still don't lock in and fall out too easily.

Can anyone suggest some solutions to get those magazines to lock in?

Replace magazine catch and button.

If that doesn't work then lower might be out of spec.

Shouldn't have to file anything.

Make sure you're screwing in the mag catch until the threaded rod sits flush with the mag catch button

^This.  Sounds like you didn't tighten it enough.

I had to adjust my magazine catch button. My Magpuls fit a little different than my GI mags. Push the button all the way in and screw the lever on the over side in or out to adjust the tension of the release.

Use a pencil eraser for easy push in of button.
