Gunna be ordering some more mags from CMMG and was wondering if its worth it to get the Chrome Silicon Spring 25% Upgrade? Thanks |
At one time I didn't know what it meant either, more or less it means that it won't wear out from loading and unloading. The silicone springs are supposed to last forever as where the Mil spec ones over time will wear out and have to be replaced. |

Springs don't "set". The only way to wear out a spring is through compression and expansion. Chrome Silicon springs are like most of the little "enhancements" we all buy. They are an extra bit of insurance against gear failure. That being said, I bought some the last time I refurbished some mags and, if I get some new ones, I will get them in those too. Never hurts only helps. Also, that the military considers mags to be an expendable resource. Most of us however do not. |
compression and expansion is how a spring sets and over time it continues to set until the spring can no longer function reliably and has to be replaced. All springs take a set, except supposedly the silicone ones. When you load a mag for the first time it is a lot harder to load it to capacity then it is the 100th time thats because after a bunch of times of loading and unloading the mag took a set and will continue to take a set until it fails. If springs didn't set then they would load and feed exactly the same way wether it was the first time or the 5,000th. Thats why the chrome silicone springs last forever because they don' take a set |
