Buy a Tupperware type container at walmarts. I bought one just for mag storage which is approx 14"x14"x12" and are fairly cheap priced.

I have most of my mags on a shelf in my safe. The ones that won't fit I have stored in a 50 cal size MTM plastic ammo box. You can fit like 21 30 rounders in one.

*edit* Definitely all stored loaded.

I don't have a lot of ammo cans, so I store my mags in file storage boxes. The ones I have come new as flat stock with bend creases. They are heavy corrugated material. I have to fold/assemble them into shape. They have slits on each end for carrying/handling, and they have a foldable lid.

Loaded, store them loaded..

Seriously ,should they be stored loaded

I agree.  If they aren't stored loaded, and you don't have 2000 unloaded rounds in reserve, then you are woefully unprepared.  On a serious note, all of my mags are stored loaded.

There are several methods I use.  The first is loose on a shelf or in a drawer.

The second is stuck in a rifle somewhere.

The third is in several of the larger Ammo Cans.  I believe these are called
the “saw” cans.  Each can holds thirty (30) 30-round magazines which I have
loaded to 28 capacity.

The fourth is in a Pelican 1200 case.  Each case holds ten (10) 30-round
magazines each loaded with 30 62gr. SS109 rounds.  These I carry in the
Crown Vic and the trucks.  This being ARFCOM – here are pictures:

This guy does it right, get some saw (aka "fat 50") ammo cans.  They're a perfect fit for AR mags.
