So this weekend I took my middy out for a pig hunt. Standard fixed FSB with a T-1 on LaRue mount. LOVED it in action. During the day/dusk, the dot was great. It was also good under the lights of the Bronco.
-However- We were seated up on top the high rack and my buddy was running his green light laser to illuminate the pigs after dark. past 75 yards, I couldn't make anything out clear enough to get good effective placement. He could see fine with the 1x4 scope he had on. My weakness was lack of magnification. So here's my question: Should I get a Aimpoint 3x Magnifier on a LaRue pivot mount, or should I just get an optic like the Accupoint on a LaRue mount? I could either swap out the optic depending on what/when I'm hunting, or get the DD side mount and run the T-1 off to the side of the Magnified optic. I hear mixed reviews on the 3x magnifier, so people not liking the glass on glass. I'm also wondering if 3x magnification is enough. I would prefer a 3-9x40 if I decide to go after deer. I'm a little less concerned on placement with the pigs. Thoughts? |
