| May be a dumb question, but if my smart phone can zoom in 4-8 times why isn't there a thin optic like a Burris fastfire that can zoom if needed? |

The "zoom" on your phone is not a true magnification of the image by light distortion like an optical scope will do. What your phone does is simply crop a central part of the image and then digitally blow it up. In doing this, picture quality suffers and as you "zoom-in". If you did this with a weapon scope, the result would be a trade off between optical quality and weight cost, as you'd have to have a powered "computer" unit to do the work, and it would take a lot to reach the optical clarity of true optical magnification.
