I installed a set of Magpul BUIS sights on my new build last night. My first experience with a BUIS. Rear seems fine but the front seems to have an issue. I can only poption up the front sight pressing down on the lever on the right side. If I push down on the thumb lever on the left side the sight will not pop up at all. Is there a defect or maybe something I'm  doing wrong?

Must be a defect, it should pop up if you hit either side or the top. Call magpul I'd think they'll replace it.

Make sure it's not a knock-off

This, or make sure it isn't a Magpul PTS flip up. I think those were sold a few years back on Amazon for fairly cheap, but were the "airsoft" quality. I'm not sure if they were genuine Magpul or not, and whether or not Magpul even officially released a cheaper "training" model, but I wouldn't think it to be fruitful.

As Brian Peppers above stated, it should deploy by depressing the center "dip" as well. Does it function correctly when that button is used?

Also, when you press the side that does not engage, does it fully and smoothly depress or does it not move at all? Might be a burr somewhere on the polymer that is preventing that side from full hitting the release point.

Are there really Magpul knockoffs out there ? I got mine from Amazon.  The packaging seems legit as far as I can tell. When I press the side that does not work, the lever does go down but the sight just doesn't pop up. At work now so won't be able to look at it again until later. Hmm... I will try calling Magpul.

Check the Amazon Ad again and make sure it doesnt say PTS anywhere. There is a possibility that it is being sold as an officially licensed "for real life" gun use product, but they could be physically selling the PTS version. I believe it should say PTS on the side somewhere.

If it is going down, but not deploying, there might be a burr on the side that IS functioning correctly or there is an uneven layer or polymer across the sight causing the non-functioning side to be just a tad too thick to hit that sweet spot. Either way... Call magpul or Amazon. You should have new sight by the weekend if all goes well.

If I recall correctly the packaging did say it is a Gen 2 BUIS but there were no instructions or paperwork inside. And on the packaging it did say instructions were included... Hmm

Did you buy it individually or a 2 pack with both sights in it?

I purchased them separately, both from Amazon. They were not in boxes rather a plastic bag I guess you can call it. Doing a Google search I was able to see the same packaging that mine came in.

They sound legit then. Just make sure they dont say PTS on the side, and then call Magpul/ Amazon. Like I said, either way you should have a replacement by the weekend.

Ya I believe the 'instructions' are printed on the piece of cardboard inside the package, unfold the label or something.

If it was packaged in a cardboard box, then it is a counterfeit. It should have been packaged in plastic that is stapled to cardboard. .

I have a rear sight that was a legit Magpul do the same thing. Would not function pressing the left ear. After working it pushing on the top 20 or 30 times it eventually loosened up and is fine now.

edit. As stated above it should be packed on 1 piece of cardboard with clear plastic around it.

Yes, that was how mine was packaged. Sounds like mine is legit.

I looked at the packaging and it appears it is all legit. I called Magpul and was told to try putting a bit of oil on the front BUIS. I guess I can give that a try...
