www.magpul.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=80_111&products_id=244 Has any one bought one yet? Looks good and I think the window is a great idea but IMO it is a bit pricey for the SS. The aluminum seems more reasonably priced. |
You have to take into account what you get in the price of these prototype mags. The window is just one thing but they all have magpul followers, CS springs and either a l-plate or a ranger floorplate included. The stainless steel mags also have ISMI CS springs as standard. Eventually we will offer the window with less options but right now that would be a nightmare for assembly and inventory. |
What doesnt stick have, thats is a question I want to know.... |
Actually it is just another tool to use. The window adds no moving parts and adds no real width to the mag body. The video was to show how quick one could check the rounds remaining and return to ready. In some situations one who just do a reload, however in some situations it might be practical to check with a glance to see. I really don't know how usefull these will be in real life but that was not going to stop us from building some and see how they do in the field. |
The black coating is standard on ISMI springs so the Stainless Steel mag springs are coated like this as standard. Yes the mags will have the option of regular floor plates it is just we don't have them at the moment. |
I did read the laundry list of bonuses that came with them. I am just not that high speed. Can I tell you a secret though? I still use black followers in all of my mags. Then again, they have been 100% reliable.... Edit: I reread my post and it does come off as kind of a smartass thing to say. Just wanted to let you know I didn't have anything against your products, they just aren't for monetarily-challenged me. |
I have a bunch of old (like 15+ year old) USGI mags that have black followers in them. I have a whole bunch of 20 rounders with alloy followers. My newer mags have stock green followers and I don't own a single Magpul or other 3rd party replacement follower. I will consider replacing the followers in my mags if and when said mags ever start to cause any problems... Call me old fashioned, lazy or a cheap bastard or whatever you want... But I can't see spending money to fix what isn't broken. I figure if I ever need to replace any of my old black followers I can probably get a whole bunch of nearly new and perfectly good green followers off the EE for next to nothing if not free from people who 'upgraded' to the gee-whiz fancy stuff. |
I used black followers exclusively for 6 years in the military and yes they served me well. However my sample size was small and the military as a whole did see an issue with the black followers when viewed over larger sample size. This is why they made a costly decision to replace the black follower with the green version. I spoke with the designer of the green follower from the Army labs. He said the leg was added as a specific fix to a "critical" failure that showed up in a large % of magazines fielded. While the green follower was a better follower than the Black when viewed as "mean time to failure" it still fell far behind other magazines such as the Steyer Aug, G36 and HK SA80A2. This is the reason why Picatinny Arsenal has been working since last year on yet another magazine follower retrofit. Again you might have not have any issues with the Black or Green followers but the US Military (and we agree with them) do see an issue. |
So would you suggest keeping our black and green followers until the next military retrofit??? There are an awful lot of "upgraded" green followers that "solved all the problems of black followers" on the market for 10cents each or something. Why bother if somthing better is just down the road. |
This is the Govt. we are talking about so I doubt "a solution" is just down the road unless that solution is the Magpul follower. I think if $2 per mag is too much for you to upgrade your mags then a 50 cent green follower retrofit is definatly worthwhile. (both can be bought cheaper in bulk) |
I was waiting for you to charm in, markm, after reading your opinion on "KNS tard pins." Actually when I opened the thread I half-expected to see a reply from you. Edit to say I like the tinted window idea. Wonder if, like cars, you could only have a certain percent. All magazines with greater than 60% window tinting are assault magazines. |
Good point. I'd like to see one first-hand and run it through the gamut. I'm a big fan of verifying ammo reserve. I've got a couple of clear mags, for other wapons, that are really handy. |
We can assume stick has anything and everything pertaining to any type of rifle or handgun |
What stock is on that rifle? I didn't notice it the first time I saw the picture. And I meant to say chime in, markm, but I'm sure you got the idea. |
that really is true! I like the L-Plates (good idea Lumpy) and for some reason these mags look like they belong on them. |
It's the new magpul CTR stock, Stickman has a 16 page long thread about it. ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=288130 magpul, Will you ever offer mags with the camo pattern or was that custom, if it is custom who sprayed them? |
