I'm considering getting one of these Magpul trigger guard replacements. I've read some reviews that their polymer version can be difficult to install.
Anyone have problems with installing this polymer trigger guard? Also, it is supposed to fill the gap between the pistol grip and the trigger guard....does it actually??? |

no more problems than installing any other trigger guard. support the ears on the receiver so you don't break one off. Or use a very well taped pair of vice grips to gently squeeze the pin in.
On the front set screw, its metal going into polymer. you'll never really feel the screw go 100% tight. just seat it flush and you'll be ok. go too far and you'll strip the polymer. it does fill the gap on the rear nicely. |

Pre-thread the screw into the MAgpul trigger guard half way b4 you put it between the ears on the lower, then remove the screw, put the trigger guard in place and install . This way when you finally install it it will be easier to get the screw lined up and started through the ear hole into the trigger guard.
Plus everything nelybarg said. It can also help to lightly oil that roll pin b4 you press or punch it in. I hope this helps. Sometimes those holes don't line up perfectly and its a bitch to get that screw started in place. |

I just installed one on my Stag Arms. It was a simple procedure but as noted I carefully supported the ears with a block of wood. Mine tapped out quite easily. Installing it was a bit "easier" as you're able to put the supporting block under the whole ear section as the pin is being driven down not out. In hindsight I could have drilled a hole in the support block to receive the pin had it been necessary to use more effort to drive the pin out so I could support the whole ear. The front set screw wasn't a problem but I was careful not to go too far with it. Yes, it does cover the gap nicely. There's a very small one left against my moe grip.

You're welcome. Here are a couple of photos for you so you can see how it fits. I also meant to mention that I used the original roll pin rather than MP's pin as it seemed a little smaller, which meant less effort to install it and less chance of damaging the ears. http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/4227/stagmpguard002.jpg http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/1412/stagmpguard003.jpg Quoted:

[img] To expand on this - in my experience the roll pin supplied with the trigger guard is slightly oversized. I bought my dad a lower and LPK for fathers day last year and installed a standard trigger guard on it. I forgot to get a rollpin with it so I used the magpul one from my kit and it was quite difficult to install. We got it in but it was not easy. I have read elsewhere that other people have had the same issue. I bought a colt pin when I installed my LPK, it was much easier. |
