I bought some Magpul followers at a gun show this weekend. So far I've only trieed installing them on one 30 round magazine. The problem I'm having is that the follower doesn't go all the way to the top of the magazine. Even with the spring pressure it stops about a half inch short. With just the follower in without a spring I was able to push the follower with some force all the way by using a cleaning rod. Is this something that anyone has seen before? Am I doing something wrong? I'm at work right now but I can post a picture when I get home if needed. |
Take a light and shine into the empty magazine body and see if you see any burs, dents or anything up there that might be coming into contact with some portion of the Magpul follower. |
About half an inch from the top of the magazine are dimples in the grooves caused by the stamping process. The gen 1 followers did contact this area but the gen2s had the contact area removed. In the gen1s the follower would run just fine but occasionally would not lock the bolt back on the last round. I would remove the follower and inspect the sides to see where the binding is occuring. Post a pic if you can just to make sure it is one of our followers. We had something similer happen with someone ysing a 6.8 follower from another manufacture once. |
I think that's the issue I'm having. I noticed that the end of the grooves are a bit bigger that the groove itself. That seems to be where it's binding.
It says magpul on the follower. I will post a picture when I get home. Guess I should be a little more carefull of what I spend my money on at a gun show. Next time I'll order straight from the source. :) |
not a mistake, I had the same problem with my center mags. I lightly shaved some plastic off the follower to make it work fine. My centers also had to be "worked" a little so they can fall freely from the mag well when released. (worked = taking them to the range and using the heck out of them) |
