Are there Magpul Clones out there? Specifically looking for the Ranger plate or rubber magazine pulls. I'd like to get some but i'm having a hard time coughing up 24$ for a .50 cent plastic package. So far I've been springing for high quality items but I think this is an area I think I could live with a clone seeing as the magazines I bought we're only 14$ a piece. So how about it... any simalar products from other companies out there? Thanks, NHG21 |

The Magpul Ranger is covered under US utility patent #6,481,136 and some other patents as well so if you find any clones out there I would like to know about them. That said the cost of the Ranger is directly related to the manufacturing costs so any saving with clones might have failure issues. The Magpul Ranger is actually 3 components. A stamped stainless steel plate is over molded with plyable rubber type plastic and held in place by a secondary hard nylon plate. All this results in one stamping die and two injection molds (one of which must be manually loaded for each Ranger). You get a lot for the $21.95 for 3 rangers and they get cheaper the more you buy. |
How sad. It is people like you that support Chinese made knockoff parts and watch US companies go down the chitter. Remember that you are paying for customer service, quality and the engineering that went into making it all happen. C4 |

Never doubted the quality of the actual magpul components and i'm sure they'll hold up for a lifetime of field/combat use. Fortunately I won't be seeing any action at my range so I don't feel I need high quality injection molded product that can be dropped from a chopper. Actually one of the reason I want one is because members like Cb1 swear by them, I guess I should of asked if there were any Magpul look alike type but products (but not Magpul) out there. Chances are I'll spend the 109.75$ (15 mags) on more ammo for now but I thought I would see if there was a similar products out there. Then again there's always next Christmas... NHG21 |
That's funny, I've purchased from you before. Actually I specifically purchased all my equipment through vendors of this board because of the feedback with the members. "People like me"... Just got done with my first build the other day- see if any of the parts from your store look familiar--> http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=224980 Edit* why does it have to be a chineese rip off anyhow? I ask a simple question to try and save some money then get tagged as unamerican from the very business I supported in the first place... NHG21 |
Do you know what Ranger plates are for?? They are of ZERO use to you if you are shooting off a bench. The purpose is to allow you to draw mags out of the pouch as quickly as possible. They also allow you to do tactical reloads much fasters. Generally, speed would only be of concern if you were taking a carbine classe, shooting a 3 gun match or protecting your life! C4 |
That's great that you support the dealers on this board. You apparently "get it" then (where as many do not). So now I am really confused as to why you want to buy a knock off product from a well respected company like Magpul.... C4 |
Because I know they are of ZERO use to me, as I said before.. users like Cb1 swear by them and I wanted to give them a go. Unlike the "Aimpoint M2" which I purchased for ease of mind (it should take a drop or two without breaking) the pulls I was looking into we're simply for toy purpose. NHG21 |
I wouldn't spend the money then (as they would be no use to you). C4 |
They are prcey (no argument), but there are reasons for it. You are free to ask as many questions as you like. The problem is when you wanted to find a knockoff of a respected companies product... C4 |
|
Ahh there we go, got Lumpy all upset now heh heh. I don't want to get into the whole knock off thing, most products are just differn't variations of someones original idea aren't they? Correct me if I'm wrong but Magpul didn't create the first collapsable stock did they? Way off track on the thread now- NHG21 |
Have you ever seen a collapsible stock like the M93A before?? It is not knocking off anyones product when you do something that other companies have already done (as long as it doesn't look like that companies products). A knockoff is generally when a foreign company reverse engineers a U.S. made product (and it looks identical). This is a very bad thing and you should NEVER support it... C4 |
I probably should of used differn't terminology as that's not what I'm looking for at all.. Magpul should be very pleased with the fact that so many speak with such high praise at least.
I think this is pretty much where I stand now, no need to continue the thread- this is what happens when you surf the web late night looking for parts.. Thanks for the replies everyone, pretty much clears up the question. NHG21 |

*treading lightly* I don't think NHG21 wanted a commie ripoff of a magpul. Paying the 21 bucks for a set of 3 ranger plates is steep. I know, I just bout 12 last week from Rich. My suggestion is you buy the origional magpuls. They're significantly cheaper, and should provide the protection and easy use you desire. My best bet would be you could buy these old types from someone who upgraded to the Ranger Plates even cheaper. As for the Ranger plates, they're definately not a .50 cent part. They're not an injection molded piece that is done when dry. The stainless steel inner plate has the soft rubber outer molding fixed to the base. Plus, there is the inner locking plate that really does make disassembly of the completed mag a breeze. I only had a few of the origional magpuls, but the ranger plate is a major upgrade. The old magpuls would pull off the bottoms of the mags when in a tight pocket. Or the loop would squish down against the bottom of the mag if compressed. The ranger plates don't shift at all, and the only chance of pulling it off is if the base of your mag fails. If you buy them in bulk from Rich, the price goes down, and if you go over 80 bucks, you get free shipping. It ain't hard to spend 80 dollars at Rich's site. If the old style are still too much money, your only solution is to make your own with paracord and 100mph tape. The amount of time, and purchasing of these supplies would be better spent towards getting magpuls if you want them bad enough. -Steve |
Good Advice Steven. |
I've seen other members of this board take the old Magpul and put it on sideways. That might be an option as well. |
