I have ordered my MIAD grip from Bravo Company and it is on the way. I am also wanting to buy a magpul CTR stock so my magpulization is complete. I have a commercial buffer tube on my rifle, and am wondering if it is worth buying a new Mil- Spec tube and a CTR for Mil-Spec tubes. I don't really know if i like the slanted back of my commercial tube. Your thoughts are appreciated. |

If you'll never change stocks, or think you won't then you probably can get away without the tube. On the off chance you want to use a Vltor, standard M4 style stock, or Crane you'll need the tube then. And you're not fully magpul yet. You'll need the trigger guard, rail covers, butt pad for the CTR, magazines, ranger plates or magpuls, and magazine folowers for the GI mags in your stack of stuff. |

When I decided to add a CTR to my Bushmaster/RRA, I ordered it with a mil-spec tube kit from BigDawg Tactical. The tube has an angled back. IIRC, Jason said the tube kit was sourced from CMMG. Quality is high for both the tube kit and the CTR. I love the solid, no movement feel of the CTR. I will probably install the same kits on my 556 (it has an old A1 stock now) and on some ARs I'm building as my budget allows. Good luck, Karl |
| magpul's i just don't get it i guess, must be behind the curve. why do you need a magpul for a weapon that has drop free magazines??? i just don't get it, sounds like smoke a mirrors to me. it doesn't really help getting the mag out of your mag pouch, if your mag pouches are so tight that you need assistance to remove a mag, you need a new mag pouch. it makes them bulker in the pouches for multiple mags and harder to get out. so wheres the benefit??? am i missing something hear???? |
so in reality, if you are having wear a belt with mag pouches. you are in a situation that you have another gimic like a mag clip ( you know where 2 mags are stuck together ) that pulls your attention away from what you are doing. i can drop a mag and reload from a pouch just as fast or faster than your average guy can with mag clips and most likely a guy with a mag hanging from his pinky trying to orient it to put it in the mag-well. remember in a situation like you would be in to do a real tactical mag change you should be moving like smoke on a windy day. so i guess i still don't get it??? it appears to be just another gimic to me. i do realize some people maybe most are a lot quicker than me. i don't spend hours practicing tactical reloads, but i don't think i will ever need that skill set to be honest. i can change mags quick enough from a mag pouch to make your average bad guy shudder though. |
Yes, you are. |
Yes, there are commercial spec reciever extensions with an angled back. My reciever extension has an angled back. It is visibly smaller in diameter than the commercial tube that came on my 556. It is visibly smaller in diameter than the threads going into the reciever. The box my CTR came in says milspec. I'm inclined to believe an angled back does not exclude it from being milspec diameter. Out of curiousity, anybody know of any reciver extensions with angled backs being issued in the military (U.S.)? Karl |

Many of us suffer from Magpulization, for some it is a slow and subtle affliction. You look at the carbine and realize, If its not metal its Magpul! For others it attacks much faster, the Brown truck of fun drops off a box and its over. CTR-MIAD-PMAG-PRS-and former M93b owner. |
The Mil-spec tube are stronger than commercial tube and I would recommend it, it is also more compatible with other types/ brands of stocks. You're just getting started with magpulization, I also suffer from it. ![]() I've got Ranger plates, anti-tilt followers on all my mags, MIAD grips (on two of my carbines), MIAD battery cores, CTR, trigger guard, just got my new trigger guard folding version and saving my pennies for the UBR production stock. ETA: Forgot to mention my PMAGs (window and std models) and ladder rail covers. |
