OK, so had this boring matte black furniture - decided it needed a good cleaning (can you say OCD?)
Anyway - a few minutes with a scotch brite pad and this interesting pattern began to appear!  Some serious elbow grease and finishing off with some TR3 Resin glaze and these puppies look awesome!  (or is it just me? )

That's one way of doing it.  Turned out real nice.  Never tried scotch brite.  I usually buy them that way and keep the nice ones looking nice.

*facepalm*  What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I'll give you $5 each for those unacceptable matte black pistol grips.

Just trying to help out.  I mean, I have stocks that you can buff out that I'll GIVE you to keep you from doing that to nice ones.  Trade me hand guards?  Sell me your pistol grips?

I'm going crazy here.

Yes, did the handguards a bit, but the mottling is much more subtle.  They are a bit shinier now and if you look in the right light you can see the fibers that make the mottling.

Hmmm... haven't found many $5 mottled grips out there - so making my own didn't seem unreasonable.  The matte stocks and grips are plentiful and pretty inexpensive so thought I would give it a try!

Negative. It would actually be $18 shipped I contacted them and their "shipping and handling" is $10 for a grip that could fit in a USPS small flat rate box or a bubble wrap envelope.

I agree.  I know some hate it, but I love mottled furniture on a retro.  I buy A1 pistol grips by the box full, and sell off the matte ones.

The boxes that mail order star wars figures came in... they are just the right size to ship one pistol grip.

Depending on the thickness of this cardboad.. It should be 3-4$ first class mail.
