Anyone ever make their own AR tools? Had the idea to make a front take down pen detent installation and removal tools.
just took a allen wrench small enough to fit the detent channel and ground one end at an angle. Works great. Drilled a hole in the other wrench (had to heat it first) and it works well also. Guess I'm just to cheap to buy them.

Many people use a clevis pin to install the front take down detent.  My local hardware was out of that size, so I made mine own tool using a piece of dowel rod I had in the garage.  I drilled a cross hole and it worked like a charm.

I made a lower magazine block to allow me to hold my lower while assembling everything.  To hold my pins when I started them, I drilled a corresponding hole in the end of a 3/8" bolt.  I can start the pins easily, then finish them with the proper size punch

I can post pictures if anyone is interested.

I machined an upper assembly block out of some delrin (the takedown pin style) It's been used on a few uppers but I finally bought a clamshell style, would rather not shear the takedown lugs off of an upper.

Please do. I have not heard of that trick.
Thanks, B.

Here are the pictures of the homemade vise block made out of oak, it is profiled to match the mag well, and has a slot milled to work with the mag catch.  The vise block can be inserted from the top and bottom of the lower.

Pin starter from a 3/8 carriage bolt.  The hole is drilled off center so that it can get clearance on the bolt release pin.

I do woodworking, so it was easy and quick to turn these out with my table saw and drill press.
