The first thread was LOCKED, and WHOEVER locked it provided a link to another thread with photos.

Well there was SOME comparison photos, but the PROBLEM is there were realistically only a handful. and NONE showing everything.

It seems that they were thinking is it has a photo of the ROLLMARK, that that is all anyone wants to see and compare.  WRONG!!!

So I'm recreating the thread and asking for photos of different stripped lower receivcers showing good detailed photos af the ENTIRE receiver, NOT just the a couple of areas.

Please direct me to a source or provided DETAILED photos of the ENTIRE receiver.

And Please DO NOT lock this thread....

While this link shows a few photos, It is by no means complete.

I'm looking for additional photos of the fire control area, bolt catch area, buffer retaining pin area, buffer tub attachment area.  This link doesn't provided these photos..

Thanks, but I'm looking for MORE.

Even a good source to blue prints would be welcome.  Would like to find them for both the AR-15 and the M16/M4 platforms.  Would like to educate myself on all aspects of these receivers.

Again, thanks

Any brands in paticular?
I am sure someone could take a few pics to comapre a few lowers if you have a brand/ brands in mind.

Even then all lowers from the same brand are not always the same over different runs and through the years.
So you will have to take all the pics with a grain of salt.

Understandable.

I know that variations exist even with the same mfg.

But I don't know if it is the government at work or just my search-FU is not working, but tring to find information on the M16/M4 is becoming a daunting task.  WHat few places I found, want to charge big bucks for their info.

What happened to the Free exchange of information on the internet???

What particular information are you looking for?

If not rollmarks - machining?

Dimensions?

Receiver bosses?

To start with, I've got a thread on the A2 forum showing Colt A2 lower variations - not the rollmarks - but they're for USGI M16A2s.

Please state the purpose of this pic request so people can choose whether or not to indulge your specific needs.

Not to be too presumptuous but... I would say it seems pretty clear what you're trying to do. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with that, but I think a lot of people both on here and in general are playing the CYA game and rightfully so. If you keep digging you'll find the info you need, you're just not likely to find it on someplace as open as ARFCOM.  Just make sure you stay within the guidelines of the law and stay out of trouble. Good luck.

First and foremost, I'm not intending to, or interested in "Breaking Any Laws"  That would be an extraordinarly stupid endeavor. My freedom is worth a hell of a lot more than that.

As stated above, I am trying to learn more about the differences between the ways the different manufacturers go about making the receiver and the machining process.

I am also look for information that would keep me from making any mistakes that could cause problems.

I was thinking about attempting to machine my own AR lower that has a little more "meat" on the sides.  I know that will cause the lower to be a bit heavier, but it will also be a hell of a lot sturdier and less prone to fail from stress forces acting upon it.

Thanks

Also thanks to the other gentleman that provided the link the AR blueprint.  It will come in quite handy.  I didn't think to look in the manuals section.

what lowers are you seeing that were prone to failure from stress forces acting upon it? (that were 7075-T6)

there is a reason its been the way it is for 40+ years. it works

You do have a point....

I think I can only recall one incident where the builder was Torquing down the barrel and twisted/bent the upper receiver.

I can think of a few others where individuals buggered up a receiver by doing something the should'nt do.  (ie breaking of the little ears for the trigger guard.)

Maybe it just that I like the looks of a "meatier" looking receiver.

But I also want to be able so tell some one that I personally built the receivers.

I've been looking at some Youtube videos where a guy CNC milled his own and the process looked like it would be a lot of fun and educational..
