Hey guys, I just picked up a new S&W M&P15OR.  Listed below are the factory specs and details on chromed parts:

Model:  M&P15
Caliber: 5.56 mm NATO / .223
Capacity: 30 Rounds - Detachable Mag
Action: Semi-Auto
Barrel Length: 16"
Barrel Twist: 1 in 9"
Front Sight: None
Rear Sight: None
Overall Length: 35" Extended/32" Collapsed
Stock: 6 Position CAR Stock
Weight: 6.5 lbs.
Barrel Material: 4140 Steel
Receiver Material: 7075 T6 Aluminum
Finish: Hard Coat Black Anodized
Chromed Comp: Barrel Bore, Gas Key Bolt Carrier, Chamber

The only thing that appears to be chrome lined is the barrel.  Everything else is OBVIOUSLY NOT chromed.  I called smith and wesson and they assured me that the parts are chromed, and they turn black during test firing.  I just can't belive that a chrome carrier would turn completely black from a few test fires.  Whats up with this?  It also appears that there are very deep gouges on the feed ramps.  Is this normal?

Two deep lower gouges at 6 O'clock are M4 type feed ramp which is what you want. The Smith did not have this when first made in '06, according to my sources.

The whole carrier isn't chromed. Just the inside of the gas key and the part where the bolt rides is chrome lined.

I know what m4 feed ramps are.  The gouges are on the feedramps themselves.  Looks like someone gouged it up with a screwdriver or something.  I suspect they were gouged by cartridges during test firing.
