Ok everyone I need lots of help can anyone explain to me the difference in all of these 223 rounds also the difference between the 223 and the 556. If anyone has a link or website I can reference that would be great. Some other questions are what are all of the different types of lead used for like boat tail or the white or red tipped ones and all of the various weights? I have not even purchased my AR yet but would like to get an understanding before I do.

| This is the best website you will ever find in reference to an AR-15 rifle and its ammo. Here you can learn everything you need to know and have very smart folks that have been doing this a long, long while. You just haven't found all the FAQ's and stickys. They even have step-by-step instructions on building your own AR-15 including pics. This site also helped me learn to reload. Just look around and you will find all your answers.... |

Well, get ready to start sipping from the fire hose! I don't know if any other round has had so much written about it. You'll have reading material right up until you finally get to the last page of the internet or somebody steals your computer after you've retired to the old folks home.
As others have said, you're already neck deep in resources here on ARFCOM, but it takes a while to dig them all out. This is most likely not the link you dreamed of discovering, but if you want to know all about the round you might as well start with a history of how it came to be what it is and get some perspective: It's a long read. |

There are soooooo many different types of .223 and 5.56 rounds and to write a comparison of them all is just not feasible. A good place to get started is the ammo oracle. Read that entire thing and it should answer a bunch of your questions. |
