How are barrels measured for length?  End to end?  Barrel extension shoulder to muzzle?  What?

Bolt in battery, use a dowel rod and measure from breech face to the end of the barrel, or the end of the permanently mounted muzzle device.

Is that the BATFE version or the manufacturer's?  I'm planning a build and want to get the right barrel length to have a FFH just short of touching the suppressor.  I was considering the Ranier Ultra Match 13.7".  Rather, I need to find a barrel/FFH combo that would work.

That's how the BATFE measures to be in compliance with NFA rules. This is also why most 16" barrels usually measure between 16.1" and 16.5" to err on the side of caution.

Depending on your flash hider and shim combo there are plenty of 13.7" barrels pinned to meet an OAL over 16". What are you planning on running?

It will be a pistol build for hunting turkeys.  Iron sights are required by law so no scope allowed.  I thought 13.7 would be the sweet spot between long sight radius and portability.  Suppressors for hunting are now legal, so likely I will go that way.  I'm just wondering if I need to choose another barrel that is of a more common length so as to be able to find a compatable FFH.  Currently, I am fond of MI FFHs.

If it's a pistol just meet whatever OAL requirements you might need for your project using the method I posted above.

13.7" will definitely limit your choice of muzzle device.

14.5" - 14.7" will give you an almost unlimited variety of choices when it comes to a rifle. Pistols are a different matter.

5.56 is gonna put the hammer on a turkey.  Going to destroy a lot of meat.

This is not a question of legality as I am making a pistol.  I was thinking on getting the 13.7" Rainier barrel, but not if I cannot find a FFH that won't gap between the can.  I was wanting to know how a barrel is measured so I can determine how long of a FFH I need to find.  Rainier lists the barrel as 13.7", but is this end to end, bolt to muzzle, barrel extension shoulder to muzzle or what?

They should be measuring it like everyone else does. From breech face to end of the threads.
