| i shot my buddies custom AR yesterday. He had Mega upper and lower and a Noveske barrel. I was fairly impressed with it. I'm in the market for my first AR and I was wondering should have a similar rifle like that built for me or go with something like RRA? What is the general consensus on the quality of Mega Machine? Anyone have any good/bad experiences with Mega? |
Welcome to AR15.com. Your question and others like it have been asked several times before. You can actually help yourself and get immediate responses by using the Search function above. Just type "Mega" in the little box and you will see all the threads. |
Mega only makes upper/lower receivers, and a billet charging handle. What is it about "tier 1" companies that you are looking to compare? If the fit and finish is important to you, Mega is on top of most forged receiver manufacturers. Tight upper-to-lower fit, and a deep, dark finish. |
I have a Mega lower and the quality is excellent. However, as with ANY company, it's possible that at times something may "slip through the cracks". Seems like I remember reading some time ago about the possibility of a small batch of lowers having tight mag wells (or something like that) ... which I found rather odd as they are known for their consistent high quality. Anyway, I didn't realize they did charging handles in addition to lowers and uppers. What are the specific benefits of having a billet CH ? I understand the advantages of billet uppers being "true", level, square, plumb, etc. and all that good stuff; AND, if I understand correctly, additional strength is NOT one of the attributes. So given the assumption that anything billet is going to be relatively pricey, the idea of having a billet charging handle kind of has me wondering ..... why? |
Thanks. It's a carbine length system. In addition to uppers, lowers and a CH I believe Mega also made a very small number of match triggers. Their primary business is in aerospace so the AR stuff is in limited runs. I do believe that the quality of their AR products is due in part to their other work. |
