which would be the best for a free floating rail tube?

I know the KAC RAS II mid-length rail system is longer than a regular mid-length upper from RRA or Armalite so it wont fit properly. Dunno what KAC was thinking.

Anyone have any suggestions for one?

I am trying to build a very QUIET rifle for use. Gonna use the magpul stock since it's extremely quiet compared to the rattly other stocks and using freefloating tube since it's locked in place and doesnt rattle like normal handguards. Trying to hold down every loose part on my rifle. Doing good so far.

thanks

I think you mean the medium FF RAS.  The RAS II is only available in the carbine length.  Your only two choices are Daniel Defense M4 9.5 rail and PRI intermediate forearms systems.  Otherwise, the cheaper alternatives are the FIRSH and the Yankee Hill tubes.

will the intermediate fit on properly or does part of it have to be cut?

thanks

I believe it should fit properly.  It is described as a true midlength tube by MSTN.

KNIGHTONE IS 100% CORRECT. THEY ARE BOTH TRUE MID-LENGTH TUBES.

AND IN STOCK!

For the Armalite or Rock River you will want to use the Daniel Defense 9.0 (not the 9.5) tube...

WHILE NOT A "TUBE" TYPE FOREND, THE ARMS SIR FOR THE MID-LENGTH UPPERS, THE #58, DOES INDEED FREE-FLOAT THE BARREL, AS WELL.

YOU'LL BE SEEING A LOT OF ALL THREE OF THESE ON OUR SOON-TO-BE-ANNOUNCED 6.8X43 UPPERS.

Actually, they are both 9.5".  The regular M4 9.5 is for midlength uppers.  The 9.5 FSP gives you midlength rails on the sides and bottoms of a regular carbine and accounts for the front sight base of regular carbine.

It has very smilar costruction to the Knight's FF systems with two notable exceptions:  It is lighter in weight and is oval (like M4 handguards) in shape rathe than round.  It also doens't raise your upper receiver rail like the SIR does if that is any concern to you.

saw the PRI tube. I LIKE that. it looks like. I wonder if the KAC panels will fit on it. I'm avoid the SIR. I do NOT like that thing.

You don't use panels on the PRI tube.  That's the beauty of modular rails.  Put them where you need them, leave them off where you'll be putting your hand.

Carbon fiber doesn't conduct heat well at all, so the grip stays cool, and it's got a nice "grippy" texture.  Putting panels on the PRI tube would, IMHO, be a step backward in usability.

Plus... one less thing to rattle [:)]

Well, putting the low profile panels on what little rail space there is might make it more friendly in the field.  Removing those little panels is better and faster than keeping track of rails and taking time to attach them.  It would be faster to pop off the ladder panels and snap on an attachemnt and losing a ladder panel is preferable to losing unattached rails out in the middle of nowhere.

My suggestion is to use the ladder panels intead of the KAC panels as you won't be gripping any part of the tube with rails on it.  The ladder panels are lower profile amd somewhat lighter than the KAC.  They are also cheaper, so losing one won't be a big deal.
