I just installed a VLTOR buttstock on my RRA middy.

I used the carbine buffer and spring shipped with the stock.  Is this OK?

I also noticed my new tube is slightly shorter than my OEM RRA tube. Does this influence which spring I would use?

Last question.  I was under the impression the VLTOR was a milspech tube.  Other than length I see no difference in it as compared to the RRA.  Is that the only difference?

Thanks guys!

The diameter of the tube is different by a few tenths of an inch.....yea what a bunch of crap, I know.  You did good on the install and any carbine spring and buffer should be fine.

Hey. Not to 'hijack' your thread, but I didn't want to start a new one with so many already existing on midlengths. I can't seem to find a good complete midlength, with a rail. I've found plenty of 9mm's and crappy unreliable ones with bad reviews, but I can't seem to find a good one that would last a while. I already have my lower, but seeing as how all the wear is in the upper, I'm not hesitant to spend a shitload on a good quality complete midlength upper. Can anyone help me on this one?

Thanks, guys.

I was thinking about buying a CMMG upper for the 20" gun I am putting together.

As fate would have it I am going to have a RRA NM lower that needs an upper.

Seeing as I have a carbine already I thought a 20" would be nice to have.

Any thoughts on the 1/7 chrome 20" they offer?

New 20" Chrome Lined 1/7 Government Profile.. This upper comes with Mil-Spec full length handguards and is complete with bolt, carrier and charging handle. CMMG semi auto bolt carriers have the shrouded firing pin and a larger lug on the rear. Upper receivers are "T" marked and include extended feed ramp cuts. 5.56 chamber. New features include "F" marked FSB and parkerizing under base. When ordering with optional gas block barrels will not be drilled for taper pins.

Do you have a goal for the 20” upper. Can you see your self getting into competition one day?  i.e. If down the road you want to shoot in service rifle matches the gun will have to meet those specs. If you want a 20’ bbl. Gun for plain shooting fun then go flat and you can play with different optics.

And a plug for Adco. They built my custom upper. Great service and easy shopping website.

Try looking for used uppers on the EE. I have seen some awesome deals there

Thanks for the link.

The problem with RRA is no 20' chrome barrels.

Just plain shooting fun. Any matches would be the informal type.   If I ever got serious about it I would get a purpose built gun for comp.

Can you believe I have 3500 rounds through my middy I bought this July?  I have been keeping a log to track rounds and ammo performance.

What about going retro whith an SP1 upper. It could be cool. It's got the chrome you want.
