I am looking to purchase a new rock river ar, I am debating the entry tactical vs a mid length elite car a4. is it just the look of the longer handguards? any thoughts?

I have the Entry Tac and I love it but the longer the hand guards the more stuff you can add to them.  Also some people feel more comfort with longer.

It's the gas system under the handguards that make it a midlength.

Softer recoil impulse (to some folks), longer sight radius, and yes...more room for crap on the rails.

I'm a middy-man myself. Many have tried them, few have gone back.

Read here, and here, and then here. If you still have time, you can read this.

edit: the pic above is NOT a mid-length, but you knew that right?

If you can, opt for a "free float handguard", a chrome-lined barrel and a 2 stage trigger. This willl give you the most bang for your buck to capture great accuracy and reliability from a good factory model. My "Elite Comp" has these features and it's a very nice setup for a 16" middy!

Yes my pic is of the 7in hand guards not to sure what the middy length is 10 I think.  I am gonna build a middy for my next go round so I myself can see what all the fuss is.   I would also consider a dissy.  That uses full length gas tube and hand guards I have shot those and I like them.

Middy guards are 9 inches.

For me the two big advantage of a mid-length are:

1) The longer gas system reduces stress and increases reliability vs a carbine.
2) Better sight radius.

The fact you can use a bayonet is nice, but not a real seller for me. Personally, for a 16" barrel the mid-length looks more balanced too. BSW
