Hello everybody. I told my son, who is in JROTC, that we could build an AR-15 in March for his birthday (or another 10/22 if he prefers, but you can guess which option he selected) . In talking over a few ideas, we are settling on a 16" mid-length rifle, but he does not like the tubular or railed hand guards, he likes the traditional look for the handguard. I want to free float the barrel. So far, the only free float handguard i can find for a middie are tubes or rails, like YHM.

Does anybody know where I can get a traditional looking FF Handguard for a mid-length gas system?

I looked around, but wasn't able to find such a thing. I ended up making my own handguards. I think there are a couple others who modified M16A1 handguards to fit their midlengths. But neither are free-floating.

I know there's a "stealth" free-float tube that fits under your stock handguards. But it's for the full-length handguards. Maybe you could modify it? But then you'd still be looking for a different style handguard...
