I am planning on getting a mid-length upper in 6.8mm in the near future and I want to put a scope on it, probably a Nikon Monarch UCC like I have on my bolt rifle. Would a 40mm objective scope that's 12" long look like too much scope for that size rifle? Most pics I've seen of midlengths have ACOGs, EOTechs, and Aimpoints so I can't get a good idea of what a standard scope looks like.

I don't want to end up with a rifle that's attached to a scope instead of a scope that's attached to a rifle, so-to-speak.

No it should look ok. I have had similar socopes on my 16in not a big problem. I would recomend the larue mount very well made or a good set of ultra high rings.

Here is a picture of my RRA Middy with a 10.6" length scope on it.  While shorter, it gives you an idea about the size.

Thanks for posting that pic, it looks great.

JD42, I've already made up my mind on the Larue mount. I saw a few pics with that particular mount and it looked to be exactly what I needed.

It'll look big, but it's not bad, IMO.
Also depends on how far forward you mount it too.
(example: SPR vs. SPR-E mounts...)
