I'm doing a Del-ton build and I can't decide between the 16" M4 kit and the 16" Mid-length kit.  The one thing that I don't like about the Mid Length is the heavy barrel, I've heard that they make the gun too nose heavy.  So my questions are:
1) which one should I get and why?
2) is there any difference in smoothness of operation between the two?
3) about how heavy will each be w/ m4 stock, normal hand guards, Etc.
thanks in advance,
nick

I have 2 middys.  One Medcon (medium contour) from CMMG and a Gov profile from Sabre.  The Sabre is probably my favorite AR.  The mid gas system is very smooth operationally.  Not as easy as a rifle length, but the best for a 16.

1.  I would get the middy in Gov profile.  Especially if weight is a concern.
2.  Middy will be smoother, but in the real world, you probably won't be able to tell much difference.
3.  Weight.  Is the M4 kit a heavy barrel?  Or gov profile under the guards?  That would help me make up my mind if I were you.  I can't tell you specific weights for the 2, but style the barrel is under the handguards is the most important thing if weight is a concern.

The only other way to go would be a lightweight barrel.

+1

I have a SABRE Govt. profile Middy,  and a CMMG 6.8 govt. profile middy.

After shooting the Middy and M4 side by side,  I sold my M4.
The Middy shoots a lot softer, and you have more handguard to hold on to.

After having shot plenty of mids and carbine length gas systems, I finally settled on a mid length.

Why?

1. Softer recoil impulse.  Not a big deal with 5.56, but better follow up.
2. Better reliability in my experience
3. Better looking . . . the rifle just seems more balanced.  What not get some handguard on all of that barrel?
4.  Longer efective sighting radius in the same size package.  I like irons on all of my rifles and the extra inch or so is comforting to me.

YMMV, my $.10

Mid Length 16" + Bayonet = Win!

All right, thanks for the advice.  I'm going to go with the Mid-length.

It will have and EOTech so the sight radius doesn't matter to me.

You'll love it.  I put together a Delton kit this winter.  I actually decided I like nose heavy feel since I'm only shooting paper and don't have to carry it all day.  David
