Since i've got some rounds downrange with this build, I've noticed (or at least think i've noticed)a couple of  unexpected characteristics of my new RRA middy.

1)This rifle seems much quieter than my old BM M4 (both 16" bbl, a2 birdcage). May not be, but it sure seems like it. Why?

2)This middy has noticeably less recoil than any carbine-length gas system that I've personally shot (not that a .223 has much anyway). Again, is there a reason, or am I crazy?

I have a BM carbine length, and a frankengun middy, both 16" barrels and I haven't noticed any difference in the report of the weapon, using the same ammo.

From what I've read, the mid length was developed to lessen the recoil impulse of the carbine, which in theory, will cause less wear and tear on the action.  That being said it should equate to less felt recoil.  I have different stocks, springs, and buffers on mine.  I haven't noticed any difference in felt recoil, but your results may vary.  I shoot a lot of .308, 30-06, & some 300 Win Mag, so 5.56 recoil is a little hard to discern.

After all this time I probably have severe nerve damage in my shoulder.
