Can anyone tell me what the difference in length is between a midlength handguard and an M4 handguard? Are they both the same length, and if not, how long is each?

No they are not the same length.
Carbine M4 HGs are around 7.2", Mid-length HGsare around 9.2" and Rifle length HGs are around 12.5".
