Where can I find how to correctly use a MIL DOT reticle?

Read and study this link (PDF file).

It explains EVERYTHING you need to know from a general and mathematical standpoint.  It also has formulas and definition.

Here's a link to the pdf:

MOA and MILS

ETA:  The write-up will also show why most shooters prefer First Focal plane and matching turrents/reticles (ex: MOA turrents and MOA reticle, or MIL turrents and MIL reticle).  Basically because if you have say a Leupold MIL-dot reticle with M1 (.25MOA) adjustments, 3.5-10,  you need to range at say 10x only (If the reticle is in the second focal plane).  You measure the target in MILs, you get the range in yds, adjust in MOA to correspond with the adjustments on the turrent (ex: .75MOA, 2.25MOA, 5MOA).  But now you see how much numbers there are.

If the turrents are set in 1CM (or 1CM clicks/0.1Mrad), you measure the target in MILs, you get the range in METERS, adjust in 1CM or 5CM or 10CM.

OR you could buy a mil-dot master if you dont want to learn anything.  Thats like the "cliff notes" to reticle ranging.  If you are trying to learn new methods, I say read... for the shooters that have prior military sniping background, it may be better for them to stay with what they know.  Namely MIL reticles (mil-dot) and MOA turrent adjustments.  It's what they were trained on and what they know how to use.  For us its different.

Me too, I'm so used to it now it would be hard to go back.  Although I like the Burris ballistic plex also.  To me it's just a mildot thay you use some kentucky windage with.

You can back it down in power and it will read MOA or Inch at 100yds.  You will need a Boresighter that reads in MOA or Inches.  Once you find the power setting you would like just market.
