What is this I keep reading about "Mil Spec" stocks and such? What are the actual measurments if anybodu has them.

I bought a Vltor receiver tube set up from one of the other members and I am told that most stocks besides Colt, CMT, Vltor, and LMT won't  fit well. Does anybody know why this is so? It doesn't make sense to me.

We all know how much a Colt M4 stock is don't we! Pricey man. I have a Bushy M4 stock that fits like crap on my Oly reciever tube, it's super tight. What can I do to make sure I get a decent fit before I buy things like this.

Open to suggestions

The Vltor, Colt, CMT, and LMT stocks use different diameter receiver extentions than RRA, Bushy, Armalite, DPMS, Cavarms, and the rest of them.  I can't recall if they are bigger or smaller, but they are different.

Beats me as to why, seems like a pretty dumb thing to do.

You're friend was only about half right.

'Milspec' carbine extensions are slightly narrower in diameter than after market carbine extensions.  Neither is better or worse than the other but you need to use the correct extension with for the stock, and the best (non-Magpul) carbine stocks (LMT and Vltor) fit on milspec extensions.

Yeah, meant to put  a smiley on that and forgot.

And the way I figure it:

Tactical = Black
Match = Expensive and often fragile
Milspec = It has one or more features that are more or less similar to what somebody in the military may have used.
