Someone just asked about a militaria forum. I don't know if that will happen, however in the meantime would there be interest in having one thread dedicated to militaria? I don't want 20 threads in the AR forum on non Ar topics, but one thread to allow discussion might work edit I mean restricting this to US military items from the time period of the first use of the m16/ar15 up to, but not including, the a2. |
| That one^^^ started out pretty good, but over time there were too many bitchslapping contests.Too many self proclaimed "experts" who don't research anything, they hear something and pass it on as bible fact.Perfect example included an item I own that someone else posted ,this item was authenticated by noted historian and author Jonathan Gawne,an expert on WW2.This item was ripped apart by "those who know everything" on that forum,as having never exsisted or homemade, and the fact is that this item shows up in a few US Army signal corp fotos dated WW2.So it did exsist, was an experimental item, only a few of 3 very similar variations were made, mine being the most scarce... I stay away from that site.Just my 2 cents |

Vietnam era militaria and M16's go hand in hand. There are endless items of interest to M16 / AR enthusiasts that could be discussed; Uniforms, web gear, patches, etc. The retro folks seem friendly and open to period correct artifacts and ephemera. I'm for it. +1 Most guys who are into this are into militaria as well. I would bet you that 95% of Arfcommers own at least one piece of militaria - a helmet or LBE for example. Frankly, a real militaria forum broken down by war would be awesome, even though it's technically beyond the scope of AR15 related discussions. There is an AK forum already though, so why not? I am betting that such a forum would see a lot of use. Some guy wants to make sure he has the right canteen covers for WWII not Vietnam for example. |
