I'm trying to put together a clone of my issue m-4. I'm not trying to get a match grade rifle; just a reliable, shtf type weapon. From what I've read this should be possible with a few exceptions: 16" barrel and semi only fcg. I have a few questions. My issue rifle has the knights armament 4-rail hand guards; I've only seen these sold for about $300, is there a cheaper look alike? I don't have a picture at this time but, for those of you that know the buis that the military has, where can I buy the same one? I'm going to buy the lower receiver locally and order the rest of the parts; is there a single kit you would recommend or should I buy a lower parts kit and an upper assembly separately? Should I get a 1/7 or 1/9 barrel twist? Does it really matter what barrel twist I get? I'm not really concerned with brand names, I just want parts that are similar/identical to what I've been issued. I'd prefer as many m-16 parts as possible; bolt carrier, hammer etc. would I have to buy these separately and are there any restrictions on how many m-16 parts I can use? Thanks for helping me out. |

Sven556, How close to a copy do you want? You can get everything except for the trigger system or 14.5 without paying alot of taxes. Buy your lower and shop around for the parts you want. I'll be returning from Iraq next week (5th trip) and will be building a M4 semi with a 14.5" 1:7 bbl. Just haven't made up my mind to go with a long (perament) FH or SBR the lower. CD |

KAC rails can be found on EE. I got mine for 200 like new. as for the BUIS look for Match or KAC. ADCO sell those Matech BUIS. as for th barrel twist they are pretty much the same. Get the 1/7 if you are going to shoot heavy bullets (75 or 77 gr) or if you want to get as close as possible to the real M4. The 1/9 can handle bullets up to 69gr. |
Other than the EE where is the best place to get these lesser expense parts? All I can find are the LaRue Tactical priced stuff. P.S Combat_Diver--- Thank GOD for You fighting men and women. I wish you all God's speed and a safe return. |
+1 YHM makes good stuff for the money. |

I'd go with a 16" Upper Midwest Industries makes really similar (function wise) rail systems, I'd go with that, especially since they can be had at nearly 1/3 of the price new of the KAC units. TROY Industries also makes great rail systems for M4's, which are worth looking into. the MRF-C DI is a great looking unit, especially if you're planning on mounting a swivel attached sling. |
