What are the minimum barrel lengths for Fragmentation for XM193 and Hornady TAP and Black Hills 77 grain?

I know that according to ammo oracle, M193 and M855 require 2700 for reliable fragging.

At what range to target?

What chamber? (ok this does matter much less the barrel length)

Without knowing those answers, I'd say go for a 10.5 on the short end but a 12.5 would be a good choice.

with m192 and m855 the 10.5 inch won't fragment even if you shoot them two inches from the muzzle, the tap I don't know. Devl would

Well If I am going to get a below 10" I guess I may-as-well just get a pistol calibur then.  But I am still going to keep my Carbon-15 for some good burn-your-eybrows-off fun.

Just go with the high grain hollow points.  You might not get the fragmentation or penetration that the FBI needs, but you'll get something that can take out a coyote, bobcat and just about anything else you hit between the eyes.

Read the ammo oracle on the ammunition thread.  It will change your whole perspective on choice of weapon

I personally have a 7.25" barreled carbon 15 Bushmaster pistol.  Its really fun to shoot.  Just for shits I put a 4-12x 40mm Leupold scope on it and am pinging the steel plate at 100 yards everytime.

GUNS & AMMO BOOK OF THE AR-15 2006 had a good article by Patrick Sweeney in it. Titled "AR Barrel Length: Does it Matter?" on page 108.

Found it at a book store but here is a link to the cover.

Did that article talk about pistol length barrels or only M4, Car, and rifle lenght?

Has a good chart listing 11.5, 16, and 20 inch barrel length, load, and velocity comparisons. He does make mention of a bad experience with a 7.5 inch but other than that...not realy.
