I had a misfeed that I want to bounce off of the rest of you. The fired round ejected normally,  but two fed out of the mag, one went above the chamber and the the second one would have fed if it were alone, actually I expect either would have fed if alone..  mag is an Okay with a magpul, loaded with stripper clips, ammo was Q3131a.

I already checked the feedlip gap by putting it top to top with other mags and it is exactly the same.  It is a like new condition mag.

QUIB: I don't see this type of misfeed in the armalite tech note, can you point me closer perhaps I scanned too fast.  or perhaps not the tech note you meant?

It's there...............

Double feed of two live rounds is normally impossible unless the magazine is defective (spread feed lips).

If the magazine loses control of the top cartridge while the fired round is being ejected, that top cartridge may pop up into the upper receiver. The following live cartridge in the magazine then moves upward into the feeding position. As the bolt moves forward and strips that next live round from the magazine it tends to force the previous round into the top of the receiver, where it serves to block further bolt movement.

Double feed of two live rounds is more commonly caused by an error in handling;

a chambered round can be slowly withdrawn from the chamber, allowing the extractor to lose control of the round and allowing it to drop onto the top round in the magazine. Releasing the bolt from the full rearward position will produce an apparent double feed.

The magazine is a known week area.. don't fall in love with your mags.......(as a smart guy I know always say's).

get a different mag and watch the malfuction go away.

I second and third what they say.  It's that way with any auto loading weapon.  Double feed = mag issue.  Sorry.  Buy USGI mags.  Or I guess the PMags are supposed to be good.  I don't have any.  Just USGI.

I've got over 100 mags so I'm not in love with it. As a nearly new mag that visually seems to have the same lip spread as all others I was perplexed.  It has occurred to me that I did the measurement unloaded.  I really prefer to be able to point at the exact flaw for my own satisfaction.  I'll tinker with it some more before I throw it out. if I come up with anything intersting I'll share it.

In other words.. you came here for help and after everyone tells you it is a magazine, you still doubt the responce and prefer to continue your own invextigation....

heres my last tip to you..then your on your own... Number each of your mags and every time you have a malfuction..check the number of the mag...if the same number keeps cropping up.. there is your answer... this is not cold fusion.

Mags look great when you compare then side by side.. but they act much differently when there loaded and running in the gun...

Noooo... in more clear words: I want to know the exact flaw so that I can try to recognize or anticipate it in advance on any of the other 100 mags I own, or any mags I may buy.  I am this way about all things that interest me. And this is a "technical forum isn't it? Failure modes are a technical issue aren't they?  I'm not a rookie, any mag that mis-feeds get a big magic marker "X" and usually thrown in the trash.

Thanks for being rude to me though.
