My Bushmaster AR seems to be missing a small plug in the upper reciever where the elevation spring rests.  It is about 1/4 inch round and sits in charging handle slide.  I do not see this item in a parts breakdown.  If this plug is not installed, the elevation spring will rub against charging handle.  Any thoughts on how this part was removed, or where I can purchase another?  Thanks

Sounds like you are missing your elevation spring roll pin.  That spring is actually held in by a roll pin, which is installed through the small hole you see under your rear sight.  Looks like yet another QA/QC slip up by one of the manufacturers.  Remind me to never buy a factory assembled rifle again.

You can get small parts like that from:

www.georgiaprecision.com

Possibly from:

www.adcofirearms.com

or:

www.rbprecision.com

You're likely looking for part #53 on this drawing.

Mongo, the roll pin is in place.   It is in the same slot that charging handle sits in when installing.  It appears that the spring and pin are not installed properly.  Thanks

There isn't supposed to be a plug there and if the spring and pin are installed properly, the charging handle shouldn't be anywhere near the spring.  There shouldn't be any coils of the spring below the roll pin.  If there is, someone installed it wrong.  If not, your good to go.

Need a pic to make sure, but it sounds like you don't have a problem.  This is what a correctly installed sight looks like:
